design overview
Through user research and interviews, this project explores the challenges people face when using a specific power tool and identifies opportunities to improve the overall experience.
design research
-To research and figure out what power tool I could explore, I went and got my hair cut.
-I learned from Lori, who was cutting my hair, about the hair trimmer she uses, learning how uncomfortable it gets after long use and how annoying it is to walk back and forth with the cord attached
Product teardown
To understand what makes up the average trimmer, I tore one apart to study the internals and figure out what could use improvement
sketching
For my initial ideation, I did a few rounds of sketching. I focused on ergonomic forms, features including button placement, rechargeable batteries, and guard orientation
foam feedback
Based on my research from the teardown and sketches, I created multiple foam models representing various ideas and forms. I made a form and received a variety of feedback on it, influencing where my final direction would end up
Cad iterations
Based on the feedback I received, I created various models in Fusion 360 and eventually dialed down the form to the final direction
