Project Intent
Design a battery-powered lamp that includes functioning and accessible inner components that can be powered on and off.
mOOD bOARD
Exploration of retro-future and 70s style light pieces. I was inspired by the forms that had spheres intersecting planes. I also looked at forms that played with non-traditional lamp forms.
ideation
I explored various forms, experimenting with spheres intersecting planes, creating some non-traditional forms. I ended up with forms that had space and planetary traits to them.
Final Direction
Based on my sketches, I made a rough CAD model in Fusion 360. The final model would embrace the space and planetary aesthetic. Leaning into that aesthetic, I felt it would be more suitable for a younger audience, so I pivoted the design into a nightlight for younger kids, ages 4-5.
Electronics
To fit the whimsy and accessibility of a kids’ nightlight, I decided in lieu of a traditional button, I would make the whole nightlight twist to adjust the light levels. I researched potentiometers and sautered with an LED strip to create the circuit for the prototype.

Final Render
To make my presentation rendering, I used a adobe stock photo, KeyShot render, and Photoshop.
