Rüdesheimer in the sky
Inspiration
When deciding upon a beverage to design the product around Rudeshiemer Cofee stuck out to me due to its uniqueness and culture. Based in Rudesheim Germany this drink consists of Coffee, Alspach Brandy, and a dollop of whipped cream. I wanted to take this delicate dish and put it up way in the sky for private airlines.
Process
To understand what I would need for the coffee set I broke down the process of making the drink.
Finding form
After understanding what I would need, iI looked into playing with different forms for the set, including pitchers, cups, mugs, and laddles.
Getting physical
Using my basic form sketches as inspiration I made some physical prototypes to get a feel for the size and ergonomics of each piece required.
experimenting in 3d
In fusion, I experimented with some various models based of the information I had learned from my sketches and prototypes. Starting out with more square forms and getting more confident with some rounder forms that would inspire the final and help call back to the traditional cup.
final design
For the final design in Fusion the set consists of two cups, one pitcher, one ladle, two storage compartments, three stirring sticks, and one tray.
Breaking it down
The main material for the set consists of vitrelle, a solid glass material used in some planes.
physical prototypes
The final physical prototypes were 3D printed with white PLA.
In context
I explored different tools in Photoshop to create a render for the set’s intended context.
